So, you now have the groundhog trap ready for use, but you find yourself overwhelmed by the fact that the active area of the trap is so small? Fear no more as I am here to help you with some tips and tricks for capturing groundhogs using the groundhog trap. Let’s begin!
1. As you can imagine, there are multiple strategies for getting the job done. First of all, and the most obvious, would be that of building more groundhog traps and placing them:
a) around your crop area (which would be a waste of active area)
b) in the middle of the crop area, as in the image below:

2. If you have more time on your hand, though, you can approach things differently and with a bigger success. First, you should view the action area of the Groundhog Trap by clicking the trap and selecting the option, then planting a set of crops in that area. Next, you can plant crops wherever you wish and simply move them in the area of the trap when they’re ready to be harvested (yes, you can move crops around using the move icon – thanks Liz for the tip!).
3. No matter which of the above strategy you choose to capture groundhogs, don’t forget to upgrade your Groundhog Trap for an increased action area!

hi guys,
it’s very simple … dont arm the trap until a groundhod appear
when it shows up , move the trap closer and arm it … 99% success
Noticed that the groundhog well trap it’s self faster , If you scare up a snake or fox.
I have just been placing crops within the space given for the trap and have had 100% success. the groundhogs usually pop up almost right where im harvesting, never far away. keep the crops and traps close to each other and within the perimeter given for each trap, click on the trap and then click perimeter- it will show an outlined area for just a few seconds. i lined them up so it covers all the area ive planted in and the edges of the perimeters touch.
Anyone having problems? I guess my game is glitching. I have had FOUR groundhogs appear & they are within my perimeter. They do not go into the boxes. I thought it was automatic?? I have to clobber them & start over planting crops. I have only caught one & i have no idea how it happened….so I can’t repeat the action. I leave the groundhogs for hours. Is there a certain number of hours I am supposed to wait?
I just plant clover all around my 2 traps and feed my animals while that grows, and since it only takes 5 minutes, you can do this repeatedly if you have time. This is how I finished the groundhog mission. If you want to visit neighbors, then plant tomatoes, they take 15 minutes.
My glitch is fixed. I now have two at a time popping up & both my traps are collecting them.
The perimeter line doesn’t have to cover the crop entirely, it works when only half or even a corner are covered.
I have an upgraded trap and find that it works perfectly set in the middle of a square of 7 x 7 crops.
Make sure you check that the 4 corners all show the perimeter line and that you remember to arm the trap lol.
Also, you can move your crops to the trap
for me there is glitch… 3 groundhogs… and three traps…. obeyed alll the rules, like placing the trap, harvesting crops around it, GH appears, arming the trap… still for last 2 days, the groundhogs are there happily dancing
please help
I had to keep clobbering mine. Eventually the glitch fixed itself.
well i do trap ground hog 3 times but then again when they appear n set the trap even they r on the perimeter area they don’t go to the trap
idk what i did when i catch some successfully n idk how to repeat again, my problem is why they don’t go to the box automatically even i press the perimeter area please help me!!!
ya me to i don’t have choice but to clobber them so how can i finished the mission if the trap dont work! and how does it work anyway help me
!!
For those having difficulty with the Ground Hog Trap, here is the skinny on the details.
After building your trap and/or expanding it’s catch area, place the trap somewhere in the middle of your planted area. Click on the trap and use the View Perimeter option to make sure your getting as much planted crops within this area as possible.
Do not Arm the trap until your ready to harvest. At harvest time, click on the trap, and Click ARM It. You will be given a warning window that by Arming you will not be able to disArm or move the trap until you capture a Ground Hog. Click Accept.
Start harvesting crops in a circle going from those closest to the trap outward. Usually piles of coin and XP stars will stop your progress before you get too far. Stop to click them and get your multiplier bonus. If a Ground Hog appeared during your harvest you’ll be able to see him now. There are TWO different types of Ground Hogs, and depending on which one pops up, depends on how the trap works. The original Ground Hog would pop up from his hole, yawn, and start looking around or bopping up and down. This type will turn the area red immediately and trip the trap. The second type is the new Springtime Ground Hog and his routine is annoyingly different. He will pop up from his hole, yawn, look around then get frightened and drop back down into his hole. You can see his eyes moving back and forth in the hole. He will then pop back up, look around again, and then act scared. At this point the area around him will turn red, and this is when you can clobber him or the trap will trip if he is within the trap perimeter. Once the trap is tripped, the carrot bait will wiggle a little and then box slides forward and you can see the Ground Hogs eyes peeking out the slats in the top of the trap. If more than one Ground Hog appears at the same time and are within the traps perimeter the trap will capture all of them.
Once a successful capture is made, you can move the trap first before Arming if you want it in a different location, or you can click on the trap to Arm it again if you wish. I usually keep it in the middle of a larger area, and after a capture I move crops around the trap from outer locations so they are within the trap perimeter, and then Arm it. You will never need to get more Bait, the supply seems endless. If you click on the trap to ARM it and there is a red X there with Arm It that means the trap is already Armed.
I’ve also heard that you can move the trap near a Ground Hog after it appears. This is NOT supposed to be allowed. However, I can see why and how it is possible. If the Springtime Ground Hog appears, he needs to go through his little routine before the area near him turns red and the trap trips or you can clobber him. If you can manage to get the trap moved near him and Armed before he finishes his routine, you can capture a Ground Hog after he appears. This will NOT work if the Ground Hog is the regular one we are used to that pops out of his hole and yawns then the area around him immediately turns to red.
david…. thnx for explaining, but the point is, my traps are not doing things they are supposed to, whereas i am doing everything as you have said for last three days. i think within few days zynga will solve the problem or like before, as compensation, they will finish the mission and give rewards just like that. i am crossing my finger on that
and also why frontierville takes so much time to load ugh! and also sometimes when ur pc hangs up n u refresh your page all of the thing u done is back to zero, like when ur done harvesting and when it hangs u refresh ur page after that u will harvest again!!! n its so much waste of time!!! i think there is really something wrong to that application and i do hope it will fixed soon!
Anybody still having trouble with frontierville locking up or losing connection? i have reset back to ground hog level 3 and lost a level up 3 times now. Is it me or is it frontierville?
yes I am having problems connecting to frontierville. I can’t get things off the news feed and program won’t load.
I discovered that if you have already armed the trap, then decide you’d like to move it, just put it in the storage shed! When you retrieve it, it’d be disarmed again
